Hi Robb:
I've got 3 of these SS ausweis. One early pattern and two second patterns. I think that all of these IDs were autopened.

As a side note, Himmler was known for signing everything in green.

Although Berkelmann's autograph appears original, I think that the Himmler signiture is the standard autopened version.

These documents usually sell for about £100 each, but a general's one is rare and probably worth three times that amount.

The Himmler signature was processed into the document as part of the printing.

Himmler occasionally initialled documents in green pencil, but most of his full signatures were done in normal blue/black ink.

Hi Robin:

First of all, I purchased your book when I first started collecting German militaria. t was helpful in getting me started.

Respectfully, if you can find a General's SS ausweis for 300 pounds, especially of the personality type (later to became Obergruppenfuhrer) , I would grab that document and run!!!

If you have one at that price for sale, please write me and the cash is off to you in Scotland.
Regards,
Steve

Steve.

You asked for an idea on value, and that's my best guess. A guess it has to be, because these things certainly don't turn up every day.

However, you're right in that someone specifically chasing a general's ID would doubtless pay well in excess of my estimate. 'Estimates' are just that, and are proven wrong every day of the week in the antiques trade and elsewhere.

We just had our new Parliament opened in Scotland yesterday. When they set out to build it, they 'estimated' that it would cost us about £25 million. The final cost was £430 million.

So much for 'estimates'!

Best regards,

Robin.

Robin:

Thanks for the return message. My apologies for my somewhat impertinent response. I am thankful for your help.
