A fine looking specimen. The front and back visors are the weak spots on these items, and therefore Picklehaubes should always be displayed just as you have yours there. Thanks for showing, Mark.

Andy,

Nice helmet. The ones I usually see are misshaped really bad. It is nice to see one the has been taken care of.

Hi Andy,

Thats neat, a IR 14 haube, the Inf Regt 14 is the Graf Schwerin (3 Pomm) Nr 14 II Regiment, it was a Prussian line infantry Regt and it was raised in 1813. 00009176.gif
The Prussian wappen seems too big for the haube tho, it seems that the wappen belongs to another haube. Are there any extra holes inside the helmet? Any pics of the liner?

Is there any depot marks, on the rear visor, that indicates the haube as IR 14? something like this, perhaps?

Thanks for showing.

Cheers,

Mush

Hi Mush , no , no other holes IR 14 stamped into rear visor. wappen been with it for last 40 years I know of. Thanks Andy

Hi , Just noticed this helmet is stamped 14 JR and not IR does that make a difference? thanks, Andy

Hi Andy,

No, it doesnt make any difference, the germans used BOTH "I" and "J" to denotes "infantry", hence it sometimes spelled as "Jnfantry". J14 R doesnt mean Jager 14 R, but 14th Infantry/Jnfantry Rgt.

check out this post for the usage of J in Jnfantry

I am rather puzzled by your Prussian wappen tho, this is my 1897 25th Von Lutzow regt, pls notice the wappen's position.

Mush

Hello Tom,

I looked at the photos you sent. Now, if your look at the helmet, you can see that there is just no way that a Prussian line chicken will fit on that helmet. The holes are too low, and it appears to be too close together. So ask yourself, what "other" Kingdom had a Wappen with lower and closer holes, and had an Infantry Regt. Nr. 15? Bayern. Someone has hammered a Prussian line chicken on a helmet marked to Kgl. Bayer. 15. Infanterie-Regt. König Friedrich August von Sachsen (Neuburg a.D.) I Bayer. Armee Korps. Find a M95 Bayern Wappen, and you will have a nice little helmet. This is assuming of course, that the BA stamp if there is one, is BAI. Good luck with your collecting, Tony

Hi Tom,

Yes, Tony provided the best and correct answer, the thought of a bayern haube didnt occur to me at all, there are still so much to learn abt haubes.
Andy, I belive that the prussian chicken is nt original to the haube, is there any other marks besides JR 14? Any BA stamp? Do you have any pics of the marks? I am really curious and I am learning something new here. 00009176.gif

Hi Mush , There is a black rectangle shaped box in top of helmet dome but cant make out anything . Also 57 which I guess is size? Tom said the "`15" but it is the 14 JR, does that make a difference as to the Bayern Regiments. Thanks for your efforts, Andy

Hi Andy,

Well, there is a Bavarian 14 Infanterie-Regt (Bayer) Inf.-Regt.Hartmanhn III B, could this be the one?
57 is most probably size, is there any other marks that begun with the alphabets BA? You can find the BA marks on the rear visor, too.

Hope this helps,
Mush

Hi Mush , Now that I know what to look for , I believe the stamp inside helmet is 14 B??? so this pretty much clears it up . If you ever run across a Bavarian plate let me know. I would like to have it correct. Thanks again for your efforts , Andy

Andy, Go to the On-Line Guide to Imperial German Pickelhauben at this link: http://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/

And then open the page on bavarian helmets. You will see yours is probably a issued M1896. Tom

Hi Andy,

I found the EM bayern wappen for you.Its Pre 1915, which suits your helmet.
Check out Randy's ageofkingsmilitaria.com

http://ageofkingsmilitaria.com/sell3.htm

Both attachment loops are present, and ask Randy or Remy to measure the distance between the 2 loops and you should also measure the distance of the 2 helmet wappen holes.

Good Luck,
Mush
