Hi All,

I have read that some Imperial German officers removed/saw off the crown part of their wappen during the weimar era.
Could this haube be one of them? At first glance I thought the crown's cross was broken off, but then I realized that the ENTIRE crown part was actually removed intentionally.Compare the prussian crownless eagle wappen with a standard officer wappen.

Has anyone seen something like this? Or any pics of a crownless haube?

Curious and cheers,
Mush

Yes. More frequently seen on Bavarian Officers' helmets.

Hi Habicht,

You are right abt the bavarian wappen, i accidentaly found this crownless bayern wappen pic in my file! Could this be one of those weimar era haube again?
Btw, i am very very curious abt Paul von Hinderburg haubes, he was frequently shown wearing haubes during his presidency, some pics showing him wearing the Garde haube and sometime wearing the Line Prussian haube, but I cant see the crowns of those wappens, did he removed them as well?

Cheers,
Mush

Found this pic on the net, Hinderburg is wearing the Prussian garde haube, with the bulbous garde star. BUt i cant see the upper part of the wappen.
Did he also removed the crown off the wappen?

Von Hindenburg was a royalist and, as such, probably did not wear a modified Wappen. I believe that the Wappen sans crown were more likely the vogue during the tumultuous period from 1919 to 1923. During this period many former officers also removed their epaulettes in order to avoid violent reactions from the mobs of reds who were raising hell throughout the Reich.

That could be the most plausible reason for removing the crown.
Here is the reservist pic I got from the haube owner, the cross still has the motto "fur KOENIG", the 'republican' owner owner only saw off the crown, but nt erasing the KOENIG (King), or perhaps that is too troublesome, as it will destroy the haube entirely?

Cheers,
Mush
