Ok guys you won’t believe my bad luck. I went to the auction at 8:30am to register. Asked to see the helmet, they were more than nice. They brought it out; it looked good so I asked about when they would be auctioning it. They said around 12:30pm or 1:00pm. This was an outside auction and it was 5 degrees yesterday so I decide to go home until 12:30pm. I get home and my sump pump went out. My whole basement was staring to flood. I have a finished basement so I went out and got a wet vac to get up all the water and wait for the plumber. Needless to say I never went back. I would have got that helmet for next to nothing. This was an auction mainly consisting of farm equipment and hunting items. By looking at everyone there I know for a fact NO ONE even knew what that was. In fact the auctioneer asked my what it was so he could describe it properly when it came up for bid. He asked if these were worth decent money and I said not really a couple hundred bucks maybe, lol. That stinks my guess is it went for around $100, opining bid was going to be $50.

OUCH! Looks like you got "double whammy'd" ... sorry to hear about that! Hope the basement is ok...I'm out "in the country" and I also have a sump pump - I know where you're coming from....

This is a situation wherein a wife proves to be an asset. Either leave her to bid on the auction, or leave her to attend to the household issue, preferrably the latter as she might come home with a hay baler or mower if left at the auction.

She would have taken care of the latter but she had a b-day party to take the kids to. It just all around sucked.

OUCH OUCH!! Yes, it stinks! To think that no one has any idea abt what the helmet was all abt, perhaps it was sold around $100 like you said!
Btw, how was the liner? Did anybody bid for the helmet? Some lucky devil!
But at least we know that miracles do happen, imagine, an almost intact pre war EM JzP helmet for a couple of bucks, perhaps it was even marked to a certain regt!........Darn, now that sucks! 00009176.gif

Hope everyhting is ok with your basement.

You should have left a bid just in case . And for future reference dont go by the times they give you ,make sure you are there in good time an hour before.Better luck next time ,I suppose this will be on ebay soon.Rob.
