Here is my latest addition. It is in nice shape except the chin strap buckels are lost to time. The scales are concaved and is named with a paper tag and penciled written in the brim with the same name.
Best regards,

Hi Jim,

Thats a neat Prussian pioneer haube, congrats! There were only 1 prussian garde batt and 30 prussian line pioneer batalions, they were nt even grouped as regiments.

I think the chinscales doesnt belong to the haube tho, the prussian officer of the pioneer batts use a Flat chinscales, whereas yours is convex chinscales, and the EM of the pioneer batts use leather chinstraps with silver coloured belt buckles.
The kokarden are those of the NCOs.

I am also intrigue by the depot stamp UR 5, I 'almost' had a pioneer haube once....the price was toooo steep, darn, and it was marked PB 29, pioneer batt 29.

I will check abt the UR 5 and get back to you asap, as the U and R are intriquing, usually R stands for Regiment, but pioneer as refered as Battalions, hence PB 29 etc.

Again, very nice pioneer haube, very envious!

Cheers,
Mush

Hello,

Their is something wrong.
- UR5 means Ulanen Regiment n°5 but this isn't a ulanen helmet.
Like Mush said a pionier helmet should be marked PBxx.
How can one explain an Ulanen regiment marking inside such a model of pickelhaube?
- I don't know but perhaps the unmounted personal of the ulanen regiments used an infantry/pionier model pickelhaube?
...
Personally I think this helmet is made up with a mix of several (original) parts.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi,

Yes, I agree with Peter, the chinscales are definately dont belong to the haube, pioneer's officers wore FLAT chinscales, and I am still puzzled abt the UR 5, at first I thought, Ulanen rgt 5? But that doesnt make sense, its not an Ulan tscapka.
There could be another explanation, I was told that sometimes, a pioneer batt could be attached to a certain unit/rgt....but so far, U generally stands for ulan, I am still looking for some other answer.

Cheers,
mush
